Mark Brogan

I am based in Belgrade, Serbia and in London. History and location are key considerations in my work, and the history of painting. My practice includes watercolour paintings whose images are intimate perceptions of historical and political situations and photo-wallpapers whose digitally produced images relate to architecture and history in a virtual way. I put the latter part of my practice into the domain of post-painting since the photo-wallpaper images are composed with a painterly sensibility. I think of what I do as being ultimately destined for public space, such as the making of large-scale billboard posters from the watercolours which are on show at this exhibition. This way they come to share the same material support as the site-specific photo-wallpapers yet exert a very different effect.
