Bianca Hlywa’s work ranges across a variety of different media. Often times, it represents polarities present in cultural infrastructure, bringing together juxtapositions between life and non life, organics and robotics, and the artificial and synthetic. In combining characters and aesthetics from different worlds, Bianca offers mutated relations which give breathing room to new possibilities. She deploys humour, darkness and beauty, building suspense in tension that lives with latent potential, teetering consistently on a breaking point.
Bianca was born in Montreal and raised in Calgary. She received an Undergraduate degree in Painting and Drawing from Concordia University before coming to Goldsmiths.
